The Bella Casa Barracudas Swim Team was created in 2015 with the goal to bring the community together through a fun summer swim program. We are sanctioned by the Bella Casa Homeowners Association (HOA) and we are a member of the Tarheel Swim Association (TSA) Summer League. With our strong community support, we were TSA's first team ever to swim as a fully established team in our first season, without an exhibition year. In the first season, we were division champions!
To be eligible to swim for the Bella Casa Barracudas, you must be a Bella Casa resident in good standing with the HOA. Bella Casa Barracudas are swimmers must be 5 years of age (on or before June 1st of current year) up to 18 years of age.
Our Team
We compete in fun summer swim competition. Swimmers in:
- '6 & Under' may swim 15 yards in three events: freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. A '6 & Under' swimmer may be asked by the coaching staff to "swim up" with the '7/8' age group in order to complete a relay team.
- 7/8 and 9/10 age groups swim 25 yards (or one length) in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, or butterfly and are eligible to swim in the medley and/or freestyle relays.
- 11/12, 13/14 and 15 & Up may compete in the same events as 7/8 and 9/10 age groups but they must swim 50 yards (two lengths of the pool).
Small Frys
The Bella Casa Barracudas offers a "baked in" developmental program called the Small Frys, for any aged swimmer that is unable to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) independently. These swimmers are given the opportunity to practice with their age group and are evaluated weekly on their ability to "graduate" into being eligible to swim in the dual swim meets. They are full fledged members of the team, and will receive a team t-shirt, a swim cap and are welcome to the end of season banquet where their efforts will be recognized along with their teammates.
