Barracuda Blast

Good Morning Barracudas!

First I want to say thank you and congratulations to all the swimmers that braved the cold and the rain to give us our first division win of the season.  Great job by everyone to not let the weather hurt their swimming!  The results have been posted, they will be loaded into your profiles later today.

And a big thank you to all the volunteers that made our meet so successful!  Thank you for coming out in the rain and doing what ever it takes to put on such a successful meet!

Meet Scoring

I wanted to take a little bit of space to explain the meet scoring and a few of the league rules.  Only the first heat ("Main Event") is scored for each event.  The scoring is 5 points for first, 3 for second and 1 for third.  Times in other heats if faster do not count toward scoring and a swimmer can only be in three individual first heats (two for 6 & under). It's this last rule that makes putting the lineup together a slight challenge, since we have to make sure swimmers are not swimming more than three main heats. It is an even bigger challenge if a swimmer leaves early or does not show up to the meet.  So if your child is sick or not feeling well on meet day, the earlier you let us know the better. Relay scoring is a little different.  Only the winning relay is scored and they get 5 points.

Next Meet

Our next meet is July 3rd against Weldon Ridge at our pool.  Weldon Ridge is the highest ranked team we will face this year.  Right now the forecast is back to 95, hazy, hot and humid with a chance of Thunderstorms. The deadline for the meet is 5 pm Saturday.   If you cannot make the meet, please go in and set the drop down to "Not Attending", this will prevent you getting emails from me later in the week.

Practice this week

Tonight and tomorrow morning for practice we will work on back and freestyle.  Thursday night and Friday morning we will work on Breaststroke.  Saturday we will work on Butterfly.  Monday we will work on dives, turns and stroke technique. There will be no practice on July 4th.

TSA Championships

On Saturday July 21st, the league will hold it's championship meet at the Triangle Aquatic Center, one of the best pools in the state. This meet is run more like a USA Swimming (or year around) swim meet and swimmers from all 86 teams will be competing over two days. We will only be competing on Saturday, with the 10 and under in the morning and 11 and up in the afternoon. There is an additional cost for this meet of $12, which will be collected later. The team will cover the cost of all relays in the meet. The deadline to enter the meet is July 7th and you'll need to sign the TSA waiver and give it to Coach Mark.

See you at the pool,

Coach Mark
