COVID 19 Protocol

With the current pandemic this is our proposal for swim season in 2021. If things drastically improve, we could lift some of these, but these are our worst-case proposal to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Practice

  • All swimmers will be screened in the parking lot before entering the pool. Screening will consist of the following:
    • Temperature check (if high, will allow swimmer to sit 10 minutes in the shade before rechecking
    • Questions:
      • Any symptoms in the past 48 hours:
      • Fever or chills
      • Shortness of breath/ difficulty breathing
      • Fatigue
      • Muscle or body aches
      • Sore Throat
      • Congestion or runny nose
      • Nausea or vomiting
      • Diarrhea
      • Within the last 14 days have you been in close contact with anyone that has tested positive?
      • Are you waiting on COVID-19 test results?
  • Each swimmer will have a location on the pool deck to put their stuff so we can maintain social distancing.
  • Each swimmer will be assigned a lane and location in the lane.
  • We will only have 4 swimmers per lane. All swimmer locations will be at least 6 feet apart, so swimmers are 6 feet apart at all times.
  • Each lane is 6’ wide, so one swimmer will be at each end in the corner. The backstroke flags are 10’ 6” from the ends of the pool. There will be another swimmer at the flags at each end of the lane.

Each star above represents a swimmer.
  • Coaches will wear masks at all times.
  • Swimmers will wear masks entering the pool deck and going to their assigned spot on deck. They will also wear it after exiting the pool once they reach their assigned spot until they have left the pool area.
  • A coach will be stationed at each end of the pool and in the middle of the pool so directions can be heard.
  • There will be a 15 min transition period between each group to get the group out of the pool area, the blocks and other areas cleaned (at swim team expense) and then to screen the next group.

Swim Meets

  • All meets will be virtual, so only Bella Casa swimmers will be at the pool
  • We will swim each age group one at a time with the same protocols as practice with each swimmer staying at their spot until it is time to swim their event
  • Each event will have a start end and an exit end of the pool so swimmers will be getting out of the pool the opposite end of where the next group will start.
    • For 25s this is easy since each swimmer will swim one length of the pool
  • For 50s the swimmer will race 2 lengths and then swim an easy 3rd length so they exit the pool at the opposite end.
  • Masks will be worn at all times except while swimming. We will have a way to get the masks to the other end of the pool so swimmers can put them on when they get out.
  • We will clear the pool and clean between each age group.

COVID-19 protocols

  1. A swimmer who tests positive for COVID-19 must do all of the following:
    1. Notify the Head Coach by email to [email protected] so that contact tracing can begin.
    2. Self-isolate and self-quarantine until 10 days have passed since the date of the positive test.
    3. Have no symptoms for the last 24 hours.
    4. Receive medical clearance to return to the pool from a licensed medical provider.
  2. A swimmer who believes that they have symptoms related to COVID-19 must do all of the following:
    1. Remain away from practice and meets until the swimmer receives medical clearance to return to the pool from a licensed medical provider.
    2. Notify the Head Coach by email to [email protected] so that contact tracing can begin.
  3. A swimmer who has close contact (less than 6 feet away for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24 hour period) with:
    1. A person who has tested positive for COVID-19 who has symptoms (and swimmer’s contact with that person was within the period 2 days before that person developed symptoms and through the end of that person’s self-quarantine) or
    2. A person who has tested positive for COVID-19 but who has no symptoms (and swimmer’s contact with that person was within the period 2 days before that person’s test and through the end of that person’s self-quarantine)

Must do all of the following:

  • 1.Self-isolate and self-quarantine for 14 days after last exposure to that person.
  • 2.Notify the Head Coach by email to [email protected] so that contact tracing can begin.

The requirement to self-isolate and self-quarantine assumes that the person has no “close contact” with friends, swimmers, family members, and others.
